1. What is NewsGallery?

NewsGallery is a powerful, web-based media service that allows businesses, organisations, marketers, lobbyists and public relations professionals to distribute and publish media releases efficiently and cost-effectively to Australian print, radio, TV and online media.

2. What is NewsGallery Search Engine Optimisation?

To increase the effectiveness of every announcement, the NewsGallery system publishes your media release on the NewsGallery website in a 'search engine optimised' way to increase the likelihood that your media release will be found by web news search crawlers, such as Google News, Yahoo News, MSN, Sensis Search, Altavista, etc Read More.

3. Why do journalists visit NewsGallery?

Journalists visit NewsGallery because it is a rich source of information and commentary that is relevant to Australian readers, viewers and listeners. Also, NewsGallery focuses on providing Australian media with announcements delivered in a journalist-friendly format, based on the development team's decades of experience working in the media in Australia, Europe and North America.

4. How much does NewsGallery cost?

For each media release published and distributed, all you pay is one low fee of $55 (Australian currency, including GST).

5. How do I know my credit card details are secure when I use NewsGallery?

NewsGallery uses the PayPal Secure Payments Gateway to protect the security of your transactions.

6. What is NewsGallery's Refund Policy?

NewsGallery undertakes to email a registered Publisher's media release to journalists selected from the NewsGallery media database using an automated system that steps the user through selecting media categories, type and regions. The email distribution takes places on receipt of payment confirmation from the ANZ EGate Secure Payments Gateway.

The publications on a Publisher's media list all have email addresses associated with them. NewsGallery guarantees that your release will be emailed to these addresses. Should a media release not be emailed to these publications or to publications not listed on the Publisher's list, which could only happen through complete system failure, the payment will be refunded to the Publisher at the earliest possible moment.

However, while NewsGallery makes every endeavour to ensure the publications of the Publisher's choice receive the release, it is not warrantied or guaranteed that the recipient will read the email's contents.

7. What makes NewsGallery different from other media release services?

The three major improvements are in our Media Release Template, Media Selection Process and Search Optimisation Features.
  1. Unique MS Word-enabled Media Release Template
One of the first differences you'll notice when you use NewsGallery is the ease and flexibility of our Media Release Template. The NewsGallery Template allows you to draft your media release offline, using the familiar desktop editing tools of Microsoft Word.

You do not need to be logged on to the NewsGallery website - you can write your media release at your leisure.

This is a radical shift from most online forms, which require you to complete your online form in a single session. No more cutting and pasting!

The NewsGallery Template incorporates all the familiar Microsoft Word features such as spellcheck and track changes. You can email the NewsGallery Template to your stakeholders for approval and editing before publishing.

  2. Media Distribution Selection
You do not need to have detailed knowledge about the kinds of journalists or publications who might be interested in your topic. All you need to do is enter keywords and let the NewsGallery engine make your selections for you. For example, if you are launching a lipstick, you simply have to enter the word 'lipstick' and the NewsGallery system will automatically generate a proposed distribution list that includes all publications with beauty editors, beauty writers, women's interest, etc. For the greatest success, select your keywords with your target media in mind.

  3. Premium Search Engine Capability
Search plays a vital role in the success of your business. Good media relations are important but search engines are the first port of call not only for journalists researching a story but for many of your potential customers and business partners. That's why the NewsGallery system publishes your media release on the NewsGallery website in a search engine optimised way.

The system has been built from the ground up to increase the searchability of your release. By using NewsGallery, you increase the chances of your company name or product being listed prominently in search results.

Our Search Engine Optimisation system is part of a continual process to keep our members at the leading edge of this fast-changing marketing and research tool.

8. How do you maintain the quality of your content?

NewsGallery's mission is to make the benefits of good media relations available to both small and large organisations. However, to be effective, we need to make sure that journalists don't get spammed with irrelevant information.

When you use NewsGallery to distribute and publish your media releases, you can be sure your announcement is in good hands. We ensure the quality of our service by:

  1. Making it easy for you to select media and publications that are RELEVANT to the subject matter of your media release
  2. Protecting journalists' PRIVACY
  3. Filtering inappropriate messages using ANTI-SPAM techniques

9. How do you deal with bouncebacks?

Journalists move around a lot so our media database is honed on a daily basis. If a media release 'bounces back' for any reason, we follow up to ascertain the correct address for the selected press outlet.

10. How do you protect journalists' privacy?

To protect journalists' and members' privacy, we abide by the Privacy Act and Anti-Spam Legislation of Australia.

We do not use multiple 'BCC' emails. Instead we email your press release to each individual journalist, selected according to your keyword categories or direct selections.

11. How do you ensure offensive material is not delivered to media or published online?

We use automatic spam filtering to ensure your media release does not contain words or phrases that would be blocked by a spam filter.

12. How do you ensure media releases are of a professional standard?

News releases are the Members' responsibility. However, our editors may review your release at any time to make sure your news item is relevant to the selected categories and that it is of an acceptable standard.

We reserve the right to reject a media release for any reason. Before using NewsGallery,Members need to agree to this and other Terms of Use.

Where Members do not have the required writing skills, freelance writers and editors are on hand to help craft a professional media release for maximum impact.

If you have any questions or seek guidance about ensuring the relevance of a media release or its editorial quality, please phone 0400 522 885.

13. What is a Publisher Code?

A Publisher Code allows you to send a media release without needing to pay each time using your credit card. You simply enter the code at Step 6 of the Submit Media Release process.

You may have received a single-use Publisher Code when you attended a NewsGallery Media Workshop or in a promotional email from NewsGallery.

You may have a Publisher Code if you are a Public Relations firm that has elected to pay a 'frequent user' fee in advance. (Email pr@newsgallery.com.au to find out more.)

14. What happens when I schedule a media release?

You can schedule your release up to seven days in advance, AM or PM. If you choose to schedule your release rather than sending it out immediately, the release will be distributed on the next nominated day - eg, if this is Tuesday and you schedule for Tuesday, it will go out on the FOLLOWING Tuesday. Your release is queued to go out within business hours in each State. This allows journalists time to trawl through their inbox, deleting junk mail, before receiving your release.

15. How long will I need to wait before my release is published and/or distributed?

Your media release and any supporting files will be reviewed by our editors before publishing and distribution. To increase your chances of success we send media releases before 2pm each day. If you upload a media release later in the day, we will send it, subject to editorial approval, by 10am the following morning. If you want your release to be distributed immediately, please email your request to newsgal@newsgallery.com.au. Web publishing takes place at time of distribution.
